Handball Bundesliga club HC Erlangen has completed his squad with the commitment of Andri Runarsson.

As the club announced on Thursday, the 22 -year -old Icelandic international will move from DHfK Leipzig to Erlangen for the coming season.

Runarsson had deposited his change of change after his father Runar Sigtryggsson was released after last season as head coach of Leipzig.

Since the back room player in Leipzig was still under contract until 2026, a transfer is due.

The Leipzig managing director Karsten Günther showed himself to be divided with regard to the change: “Our plan with Andri was definitely different. But in sports it is part of reacting to new situations and finding solutions that are in the best possible interest of the club. Together with Andri and the HC Erlangen, we have found a way that also fits us to be able to agree to this change.”

Runarsson switched to German Bundesliga club TVB Stuttgart in 2021, but left the club at the beginning of the 2022/23 season, returned to Iceland and played there for Haukar Hafnarfjörour.

In 2023 he joined a German first division club again and moved to Leipzig.
