After a total of four World Cup successes with Red Bull, Sebastian Vettel moved to Ferrari for the 2015 season, celebrated another 14 Grand Prix victory with Scuderia and became vice world champion twice. However, the great success with the Reds failed to materialize.
But although Vettel never won the World Cup title with Ferrari, the Heppenheimer has not regretted moving to Maranello to this day.
“I don’t regret the step itself,” emphasizes the 38-year-old in the “ORF” podcast “Sport am Sonntag”. “I believe that it brought me a lot in the sense, also in experience, and knowledge of what I had at Red Bull at the time.”
However, the way he left his Red Bull team was not entirely optimal. “I think the human component has been lost a bit,” admits Vettel, who sees the confidentiality of his Ferrari contract as a reason.
Vettel “continues to identify with Red Bull”
Because he “adhered to certain agreements” too strictly, the move from Red Bull to Ferrari went somewhat bumpy. He would do that differently today. “But overall I had a great time and still a great relationship with all the people I had to do with at the time.”
“And I think it would have been more dignified to just pronounce it and maybe not to stick to the clause,” the four -time world champion admits with a little distance. The time at Ferrari was very nice, but could not beat the Red Bull era.
“The people and the times you experienced together and how much it welded you together,” Vettel no longer experienced in a comparable way in the following years. “Even if I had a very nice time at Ferrari afterwards, but a large part of me further identified with Red Bull and Red Bull Racing.”
