After the explosion at Beauty Salon Nazar Beauty, the shock was good with the residents of the Oosterstraat in Breda. An explosive exploded there in the night from Saturday to Sunday. “Then you put your head out of the window to see what’s going on,” says a local resident.
“At a quarter past five I woke up from an explosion. Shortly thereafter a siren could also be heard,” says Eelco who lives in the neighborhood. After the bang he walked towards one of his windows to be able to take a look at the street. “I could not see the building where the explosion had taken place from my window. My neighbor had also heard the bang and also hung out the window.”
He could see more at the back of Eelco’s home. “There was a lot of smoke. I made the calculation myself, put on some clothes and went to look.” When he arrives downstairs he sees that the smoke from Beautysalon Nazar Beauty is coming on the Oosterstraat.
Windows
The fire brigade pulled out with several vehicles and hit part of the windows of the building to get the smoke out of the building as quickly as possible. “Units have been built in the building that are rented separately. I think they also pushed part of the walls so that all the smoke could go outside and to see if there was a fire somewhere,” says Eelco.
Six apartments above the beauty salon were evacuated by the fire brigade. “The evacuation was fairly dramatic. A lot of people live in the building. They were very panic. They know each other well and not everyone was present.”
Weed nursery cleared
As far as we know, no one was injured in the explosion. What is special is that a weed nursery was cleared in the building on Oosterstraat last week. The waste containers were still on the lawn in front of the building.
The retail spaces under the apartments are all connected. “The space of the weed plantation is connected to another space in the building at the back,” Eelco explains. As far as he knows, these spaces are also rented to the same entrepreneur.
According to the local residents, there would be a relationship between the explosion and the roll -up of the weed plantation. What and whether there is a connection between the two is investigated by the police. And Eelco is happy with that, because six months ago a weed plantation was discovered two buildings further on. “It is nice that they look at. You want to live in a neighborhood where people who work hard are not bothered. Imagine that you live above that, you don’t want that.”
