The smokers were taken away when the aircraft of airline TUI landed in the American city of Bangor on Tuesday around 9.30 pm. They were reportedly in a drunken state. According to the pilot, some paperwork had to be done before the other passengers could continue their journey.

But that took longer than expected. “We were on the floor in the device for five hours,” passenger Lawrence told The New York Post. “The plane then started driving, but then there turned out to be problems with the route. We all had to leave the aircraft.”

The passengers were all put in a tight lounge. Lawrence describes the temporary stay as a ‘war zone’. “There were endless rows with beds.” On images you can see that the passengers lay side by side on mattresses.

“We were there more than 12 hours,” says Lawrence. “And only after 6 or 7 am we offered a drink.” The next day the passengers were able to continue their journey to London again around 3 p.m. They were stranded in Bangor for a total of around 17.5 hours.
