Initially, the Opmeer College seemed to be positive after three developers for solar parks interested. In the meantime, the flag is hanging differently. Two developers have dropped out for financial reasons, one third received zero this week on the complaint at the municipality. This would not fit within both municipal and provincial policy.

To the annoyance of developer TPSolar, who has already made concessions in the past and has invested ‘some tons’. The intended solar park in the West Frisian Hoogwoud, which should first become 22 hectares, was already reduced to 10 at the request of the municipality. In addition, the developer has already reserved a connection to the power grid at Liander.

“We are still surprised and very disappointed,” says Tijmen Goes. “We have applied for an environmental permit, which meets all rules, has been submitted in consultation with the municipality and for which the homework was done well.”

The developer does not accept this and goes to court. “We look forward to this with confidence.”

Victory

Where disappointment dominates at TPSolar, Stichting Opmeer thinks that he is happy with this decision. From day one, the foundation has argued for Zon on Roof. “Of course we are happy, what do you think,” says Erik Mooij, who represented around 1,800 inhabitants. “We even get reactions, from: the birds are also grateful to you.”

Mooij is pleased that the municipality opts for solar panels on roofs of buildings and preserving agricultural land. “That is in line with what we are trying to convey from the very beginning. There is still plenty of room to fill the roofs.”

Small nuclear power plant has a priority

Does this seem open to the road for a small nuclear power plant, a so -called Small Modular Reactor (SMR), in Opmeer? Perhaps, says responsible alderman Herman ter Veen. “We are now fully engaged in investigating what is possible.”

It is no secret That Opmeer has ears here. The municipality regards this as a ‘crucial part’ to be climate neutral in 2040. Last Energy from the United States has even shown interest and has several locations in mind.

It is also known that the municipality would like to speed up with the arrival of this. If it is up to the municipality before 2030, even though experts find These expectations too high.
