Even without the captain Giulia Gwinn, German women win at the European Championship. So the players were in shape against Denmark.

Kim Steinke reports from Basel

The German national team won the second game at the European Championship 2025 against Denmark with 2-1. The team of national coach Christian Wück was also unable to shock – because first the Danishes took the lead through Amalie Vangsgaard (26th minute). In the second half, however, Germany turned up and, through goals from Sjoeke Nüsken (56th) and Lea Schüller (66th), to 2: 1. After the 2-0 opening victory over Poland, the Wück team has now achieved the second success.

With this, the German footballers showed that they can survive without her injured captain Giulia Gwinn – Gwinn was still omnipresent, even if she couldn’t play. The German women held their jersey at the team photo in the cameras and everyone also wore a white broth with the inscription “GG7”.

“It was a strong team performance,” said Torganist Schüller in the ARD. In doing so, she and her teammates had to fight for victory and cope with two important decisions of the video referee against herself before the break. “You just can’t be put off by something like that,” said Schüller. National coach Wück also confirmed after the game: “I am incorporating it extremely high for the team how they came back.” Anyone who was particularly convincing against Denmark – and if you wanted more – read the photo show or here.

The next opponent for Germany is the national team of Sweden on Saturday (from 9 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online). This will be the hardest opponent at this tournament.
