The tax procedure for the summer fairy tale scandal may go into the next round. The German Football Association (DFB) has appealed against the fine imposed by the Frankfurt/Main district court “on time”, as the association confirmed on “SID” request. First, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, citing a court spokesman, reported on the revision.

This could make the affair a matter for the first criminal senate of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH). However, the Karlsruhe judges would hardly negotiate the case for procedural reasons before autumn 2026. But that is not yet.

“As announced, the DFB will make a final assessment of the further procedure after receipt and evaluation of the written reasons for the judgment,” said the association with regard to a revision. The district court has several weeks to copy the written justification.

DFB has “supported the corrupt system of FIFA”

The District Court of Frankfurt had sentenced the DFB to a penalty of 130,000 euros two weeks ago for the misconduct of its former top officials. However, 20,000 euros of it were issued due to the long period of proceedings. The prosecutor Jesco Kümmel rated the judge as a success, but already expected a revision of the DFB at the time.

The process of the dubious payment flows around the 2006 World Cup seemed to have ended. “The DFB is a loser,” judge Eva-Marie Distler said about her judgment and made the association mercilessly pilloried. The court saw tax evasion as proven. “The DFB also handled black money payments and supported the corrupt system of FIFA,” said Distler.

In its statement, the DFB, on the other hand, emphasized that the state “did not result in tax damage as a whole”. This “expressly emphasized the court and mitigating”. The court therefore “remained in the lower area of the possible fine”.
