Germany was surprisingly behind in the first half after Amalie Vangsgaard opened the score for Denmark in the 26th minute. Germany went hunt for a goal even brighter, but saw the VAR intervening twice. As a result, a goal was rejected for offside and a given penalty kick was reversed.

In the second half, the German team managed to attract the game for 34,500 spectators. With goals from Sjoeke Nüsken and Lea Schüller, the backlog was turned into a victory.

Record number of fans traveled

That happened under cheers of around 17,000 German fans in the St. Jakob Park in Basel. Never before did so many German fans come to a competition of women outside of Germany. The previous record was on 4816 German fans on Wembley. Of course it helps that the tournament is played so close to Germany. The St. Jakob park is about a 10-minute drive from the German border.
