In 2019, a large part of the medieval cathedral went up in flames. “Notre-Dame is currently the most visited monument in France,” said Rector Olivier Ribadeau Dumas. “The emotions after the fire are nothing compared to the emotions after the reopening,” it sounds.

Between December 16, 2024 and 30 June 2025, 6.02 million people visited the cathedral, or 35,000 visitors a day. If the number of visitors also remain so high in the second half of 2025, the Notre-Dame will pick up the other Paris attractions with 12 million visitors. Last year the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre attracted 9 million visitors, the Musée du Louvre 8.7 million, the castle of Versailles 8.4 million and the Eiffel Tower 6.3 million.

For the fire in 2019, the cathedral of Notre-Dame attracted on average “about 11 million people” per year.
