After a storm and a more than one -hour interruption, Kent Farrington won the “Prize of Europe” at the Chio in Aachen.

The rider from the United States prevailed at the first highlight of the world’s largest riding tournament in the world in the saddle of Myla. Richard Vogel provided the best German result. Last year’s winner rode fourth with a cloudio.

Continued only after protest from National coaches

A chaos was preceded by the violent storm. The test before the “Price of Europe” was initially interrupted after rain, lightning and thunder and then even officially broken off. After protests by some national coaches, the organizers finally decided to continue jumping after a long break.

This delayed the main jumping. With Emeraldo, the American Laura Kraut won the exam, which she had taken before the interruption before the “Prize of Europe” was able to begin with delay and ended with another US victory. Five German couples reached the peak at the climax, but it was not enough to win.

Vogel did not go “the very last risk”

As in 2014, Farrington secured victory. The Colombia, which comes from Colombia and riding for Israel, Daniel Bluman came second with Corbie. “I’m still very happy,” Vogel commented on his fourth place. He did not take “the very last risk”.

In the early afternoon it was better for bird – he had ensured the first home win at the Chio. The 28 -year -old show jumping rider rode to first place in a time jumping with his horse Phenyo. Behind him the Irish Denis Lynch came in second place with King Blue.

Nation prize as the second highlight for show jumper

Vogel had set a record in Aachen last year. The rider from Baden-Württemberg won four CHIO exams and also got on the podium in six other jumps. At the tournament, which was first held for the first time in 1924.

For the show jumpers, the second highlight follows on Thursday evening, and the Nations Prize is, so to speak, the international match of the horse sport. Nominated for the national team, national coach Otto Becker has a quartet around single Olympic champion Christian Kukuk with Cepano: These include Hans-Dieter Dieter with Elysium, Sophie Hinners with Combella and Jana Wargers with Dorette.

Dressage team only with three couples at the start

The dressage nation price also begins on Thursday. However, the German team starts weakened because Sönke Rothenberger is out because his horse Fendi has health problems, according to the German Equestrian Association. It was no longer possible to use a reserve couple.

The national team in Aachen consists only of the trio Katharina Hemmer with Denoix, Frederic Wandres with Bluetooth and Isabell Werth with Wendy. Since only the three best results per team count, the German team can still win the Nations Prize, which will continue on Saturday with the second sub -examination (special).
