Sean Combs, who was faced with five charges for serious crimes – among other things because of human trafficking and conspiracy for organized crime – in the past seven weeks. was acquitted by the more serious allegations, but was convicted of promoting prostitution.
“Not guilty” judgment brings relief to Combs
Since the moment Combs’ ex-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura submitted her sensational lawsuit for human trafficking in November 2023-which led to his arrest in September of the same year-the 55-year-old had asserted his innocence. The top-class defenders of the Bad-Boy Records boss did not avoid brutal and repeated violence against Ventura. But they repeatedly emphasized: “Domestic violence is not a human trafficking.”
When the “not guilty” judgment on the conspiracy for organized crimes was read out, Combs put his hand over his face and tended to make his head.
The verdict was announced in a crowded courtroom after a jury of eight men and four women advised a total of 13 hours. Already on Tuesday evening, the jury had agreed a judgment on the charges of human trafficking and the promotion of prostitution in connection with Ventura and another ex-girlfriend named “Jane”.
In the indictment of the conspiracy for organized crimes, they first said that no agreement could be reached due to “undeterrable opinions on both sides”. According to the instructions by judge Arun Subramanian, the jury returned the next day with a final judgment.
The conviction for promoting prostitution could bring COMBS a prison sentence of up to 20 years. Each charges can be punished with up to 10 years in prison. However, this is significantly below a possible lifelong imprisonment that was in the room in the event of a conviction for human trade and organized crime. An appointment for the verdict is still pending.
Emotional process with 34 witnesses of the indictment
The three -day consultation followed seven weeks of stirring testimony of 34 government witnesses. Main defender Marc Agnifilo was emotionally in his final defender, struggled with tears and accused the public prosecutor of targeting Combs with excessive power. Ventura’s lawsuit was used as a springboard to penetrate private life in Combs. And to prosecute him with criminal laws based on his unconventional sexual preferences.
In Combs’ supposedly “private time” and to “reacting” the business mogul filmed his friends during days of sex with male escorts. He staged these sessions like a personal porn shoot: with designer candles, meticulous choreography and clear instructions, what should happen.
Combs’ sex life as the center of the process
The public prosecutor accuses Combs of making Ventura and Jane compliant with a drug buffet – especially Ecstasy – over a “no”. Combs have manipulated women over the years and forced the violation, coercion or financial threats as well as the threat of publication explicitly recordings on sexual acts.
Defender Agnifilo, on the other hand, mocked the sex parties known as “freak-offs”, which were at the center of the indictment. “You can call it swingers, three, however. That is. That is shown. “He never thought that something was wrong.”
The jury seemed to agree. And spoke Combs of the accusation of human trafficking to Ventura and Jane Frei. He was also relieved of the accusation of having used a team of high -ranking employees, security forces and “young, eager” assistants as part of a criminal organization.
Defense waived his own witnesses
Combs was confident during the entire process. So much that his lawyers did without his own witnesses. Instead, they listen to text messages between Ventura and Combs, in which the R&B singer supposedly showed enthusiasm for the multi-day, drug intensive encounters. After only 25 minutes, the defense concluded its argument. Convinced that the evidence was in her favor.
The indictment claimed that Combs led a criminal organization from 2004 until his arrest in September 2024, which essentially revolved around his sex life. Together with alleged co -snacks, he is said to have ordered three kidnappings, an arson attack on Kid Cudi’s Auto (because of its affair with Ventura), bribery of a hotel employee with $ 100,000 for deletion, witnesses and drug trafficking.
Sexual exploitation over the years
According to the public prosecutor, Combs is said to have sexually exploited his friends during the alleged criminal conspiracy. Ventura from 2009 to 2018, Jane from January 2021 to September 2024. In Los Angeles, New York, Miami and on the Turks and Caicos Islands.
It is not the first time that Combs emerges from a criminal trial, although the law apparently stood against him. Already in 1999 he threatened 15 years in prison for his alleged participation in a shootout in a night club. What endangered his future as a billion dollar Mogul. But in March 2001 he was acquitted. And his mother Janice hugged a court in the immediate vicinity of today’s Federal Supreme Court.
The then 22-year Combs also criticized in connection with a tragedy in the basketball game in favor of a good cause in December 1991, in which nine people died. He had organized the game at the City College of New York. Despite the excuses and the settlement of several civil lawsuits, the accident ultimately became a footnote in Combs’ biography before founding Bad Boy Records in 1993 and The Notorious Big discovered.
Civil lawsuits against Combs are piling up
Combs is currently still faced with over 50 civil lawsuits. Ventura’s lawsuit, which was included in $ 20 million within 24 hours, triggered a wave of similar allegations from men and women. The alleged sexual assault passes over Combs’ three decades long career. From 1990 to July 2024. Numerous models, people from the music industry and casual acquaintances accuse him of having sexually exploited them.
Combs vehemently rejected all accusations for sexual abuse. “Mr. Combs has never sexually abused or sexually exploited someone. Neither men nor women, neither adult nor minors,” said his law firm in an earlier statement.
