Propaging illegality means that it is forbidden to be in the Netherlands without valid papers, and that you can get a punishment for that. The vote on the PVV proposal caused a stir in The Hague. Due to the absence of several left-wing MPs who were at Keti Koti, including GL/PvdA leader Frans Timmermans, the PVV proposal suddenly received a majority.

“Many thanks to Timmermans and other MPs from GL/PvdA for visiting that weird slavery godstone, making them absent at the votes in the Lower House this afternoon,” responds PVV leader Wilders.

“This gave our PVV proposal/amendment to criminalize illegality – also for those who help illegal immigrants – a majority!” It goes without saying that the PVV will now at least vote for the Asylum Measures Act on Thursday, Wilders notes.

Almost certain majority

The Asylum Measures Act includes the abolition of a permanent residence permit, limiting the period of a temporary asylum permit from five to three years, shortening nuclear families and measures to make asylum procedures more efficient.

With Wilders’ commitment, a chamber majority now seems almost certain. Coalition parties VVD, NSC and BBB can therefore count on crucial support from the largest fraction in the Lower House. Although the definition of vote will take place this Thursday.

In addition to the asylum measures law, there is also voting on the (re) introduction of the two -state set. This makes a distinction between people who flee from a war zone and people who are personally prosecuted. This gives extra possibilities to limit the influx of nicizers into the second group. Whether the PVV will also vote for that is not yet clear.

Support from CDA in the Senate crucial

In addition to a majority in the Lower House, the laws must also achieve a majority in the Senate. Support from the CDA is crucial for the latter. The CDA wanted an adjustment in the two -state system, but that adjustment did not achieve a majority today. The question is therefore whether the CDA will support the law at all.
