After more than ten years in the municipal council of Emmen, alderman Guido Rink (PvdA) announced that he will not be eligible for election after this period. With a personal statement on his farewell on Facebook, Rink looks back on a period full of commitment, ideals and changes.
In his retrospective, Rink mentions, among other things, the ‘Scale jump’ of Emmen, with which the municipality explicitly chose to think more ambitious and larger. He also counts the commitment for the Lower Saxony Line, which must strengthen the accessibility and economic opportunities of the region, among the highlights of his career. In addition, he was closely involved in themes such as existence, sustainability and diversity.
Nevertheless, Rink now consciously chooses to take a different path after this period. “I feel stronger and stronger the desire for freedom. For open -mindedness. For space to live, enjoy, and to do crazy occasionally,” said the alderman. He describes how the constant “in function” began to pinch more and more and how he longs for a life with more room for personal.
Despite his approaching farewell, Rink continues to commit himself to the municipality with full conviction until the end of the term of office. He emphasizes the power of the Emmen community: “The place where we are looking for each other, where there is room for differences and where we find each other in our shared values.”
Guido Rink leaves a solid impression within the local administration. His call to residents to keep trust in each other and to bring about changes themselves, sounds like a final encouragement of an enthusiastic director who has left his mark on Emmen
