The attainment targets for the integration exam Knowledge of the Dutch Society (KNM) have been renewed. Revision was necessary to allow the content of the exam to match social current events. As of July 1, 2025, the exams are taken according to the new attainment targets. The integration examination tests what newcomers need to know to be able to fully participate in Dutch society. Some things that have been adjusted are more attention for the self -determination of women and knowledge of the Holocaust. The questions are also more focused on knowledge rather than on behavior.
State Secretary Jurgen Nobel (Participation and Integration): “Very good that the new attainment targets are now starting as of July 1 so that integrators know how Dutch society works and what you have to do to get started and how we deal with each other in the Netherlands. I am happy that there is extra attention for the self -determination of women. Holocaust is also desperately needed in the Integration Action Agenda. ”
To be able to pass the exam, for example, testing or integrators know what the Holocaust means, that many Dutch Jews have died in it and that anti -Semitism and discrimination are forbidden. Integrators must now also demonstrate that they know what the right to self -determination of women in the Netherlands entails.
For the KNM exam, it has been determined in advance what needs to integrate from Dutch society to be able to function properly in this. Those so -called attainment targets are divided into various themes, such as work and income, manners, values and norms, living and state design. The attainment targets of the KNM exam are renewed every 5 to 10 years, so that the exam matches changes in society and in laws and regulations. The previous revision dates from 2015.
The Cito has drawn up the new exams and has coordinated the revision on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. The Education Executive Agency (DUO) is taking the integration exams. The revised attainment targets, part of the Integration 2021 scheme, were published in the Government Gazette.
