The German athletes continued their catch-up at the European Team Championship in Madrid. The selection improved from the seventh to second place on the penultimate day of the competition and now has 266 points in the account.
The Italian team, which leads significantly with 290 points, is on course title defense. Poland (256.5 points) took third place in front of the Netherlands (253.5 points), which fell back from first place.
Dreifinger Joyeux fetches the second German victory
Dreiferer Caroline Joyeux provided the second victory of the German team at this European Championship with a strong width of 14.42 meters in the sixth and last attempt. Karl Bebendorf had already won the 3,000 meter obstacle on Friday.
With 66.17 meters, discus thrower Mika Sosna only had to give up Tokyo Olympic champion Daniel Ståhl (68.36 meters) from Sweden. The 4×100-meter relay of the men also took second place in the line-up of Kevin Kranz, Marvin Schulte, Julian Wagner and Lucas viewed in 38.27 seconds behind the Dutch quartet (37.87 seconds).
Women’s relay and high jumper Potye on bronze
The women’s relay with Lisa Marie Kwayie, Sina Mayer, Sophia Junk and Lisa Mayer (42.52 seconds) came in third place behind the victorious Dutch (42.02 seconds) and Spain (42.11 seconds). High jumpers Tobias Potye also proved to be a point supplier and finished third with crossed 2.24 meters. The Czech won Jan Stefela (2.33 meters).
The German 4×100 meter relays pose together
The eleventh edition of the Team European Championship ends on Sunday with the appearances by long jump star Malaika Mihambo and 90-meter spear thrower Julian Weber.
The best 16 nations take part in the European Championship and each send an athlete, an athlete or a season to the 37 competitions. The better the placement, the more points there are for the team. Germany took third place at the team European Championships two years ago in Chorzów in Poland.
