In the night from Sunday to Monday, the local police of the Blankenberge/Zuienkerke zone noticed suspicious behavior in the marina of Blankenberge. According to the public prosecutor, the suspects were left a boat in the water. The eight men were arrested on the spot. After interrogation, all suspects were brought before the Bruges investigating judge. He decided on Tuesday to keep them on suspicion of bend formation.
It is currently unclear what the suspects were planning. They may have intended to pick up drugs in the North Sea. However, the public prosecutor cannot lose anything about the suspected intentions of the suspects. The Bruges department of the West-Vlaanderen public prosecutor’s office still indicated that customs are being carried out by customs in the context of the international operation ‘White Sea’. In addition, they fish ships on suspicious lines on the North Sea.
On Friday morning, the council chamber ruled that three Dutch people and an Albanian could leave the prison at Borgen. The council chamber wanted to release the four Belgian suspects under certain conditions. The Bruges department of West Flanders, however, appeals against the eight releases. This means that the Ghent Chamber of Invaluation (KI) will have to make the decision within two weeks. In anticipation of that session, all suspects therefore remain in prison.
