A swimming pool in Dresden was closed during a championship. A static office had registered concerns.

In Dresden, a German youth championship was broken off in water jumping because the swimming pool is no longer considered safe. The municipal Dresdner Bäder GmbH has blocked the Springerhalle of the Freiberger Straße swimming sports complex with immediate effect, as the MDR reports.

Apparently there has been doubts about the resilience of the roof structure. The hall was built about 60 years ago, and a statics office had now registered concerns about the hanging construction. Because when building, clamping concrete binders were used, which, like the collapsed carol bridge, contain the so -called Hennigsdorfer clamping steel, according to the MDR. Apparently there is fear that the binder will also be prone to corrosion.

That is why Dresden’s mayor Jan Donhauser (CDU) had the immediate blocking of the hall. Another swimming pool, which was newly built in the Freiberger Straße sports complex in 2016, is therefore not affected. The statics office recommended that the roof ties to be examined as soon as possible. So far it is unclear whether and where the swimming championships are made up for. The competitions for the C-youth should actually go until Sunday. Dresden is one of the five federal bases for water jumping. You are others in Berlin, Leipzig, Halle and Rostock.
