Manchester United has extended the expiring contract of goalkeeper routiner Tom Heaton by another year. The 39-year-old goes into his 20th season as a professional, many years closely connected to the Red Devils. Heaton already came to the club’s academy in the youth, debut in 2005 during a loan for Swindon Town. In 2021 he returned to United. Despite his role as a substitute goalkeeper, Heaton plays an important role in the team structure. He is considered a leadership within the cabin and was most recently part of the English squad at the EM 2024 – as a training goalkeeper to support the team.

“I am extremely proud to continue to be able to represent Manchester United. As a group, we are all very excited about the coming season. I am ready to support the team in every respect, while we are preparing for the biggest title again,” Heaton is quoted. Jason Wilcox, sports director of the Red Devils, also praised the whereabouts of the veteran: “Tom’s leadership qualities and his experience are very important for the team, so we are pleased that he will be part of the team next season. His mentality and professional preparation, with which he is always ready for use, make him an ideal addition to our goalkeeper group.”
