Inflation in Spain increased as expected in June.
The consumer prices (HVPI) calculated according to European standards rose by 2.2 percent in the year, as the Statistics Office ine announced on Friday in Madrid according to an initial estimate. Analysts had expected this rate on average. In the previous month, the inflation rate was 2.0 percent.
In the month comparison, an increase in consumer prices is reported by 0.6 percent after stagnation the month before. This was also expected on the market.
According to the statistics office, the stronger inflation is mainly due to an increase in fuel prices. To a lesser extent, an increase in prices for food has also increased inflation.
With the increase, inflation lies in the fourth largest economy of the Euro zone Above the target brand of the European Central Bank (ECB) of two percent in the medium term. According to the latest data, inflation is lower in the euro zone as a whole and had only 1.9 percent in May.
