“Open up your Heart Now, Baby – It’s Knocking at the Door”, Durand Jones eats on “If not for Love” with a voice in which longing and perspective are shaking hands. Behind it builds up a string cascade in the style of the 1970s, supported by a creeping groove and finally replaced by a saxophone solo that does not simply begin, but rather unfolds. This is soul as he was once: urgent, lush, tender.

But where the visible keywords such as Marvin Gaye or Curtis Mayfield preached down from the pulpit, The Indications gather in a community: Flowers are looking for their own roots looking towards the disco, and they are in the JAM, in the light awareness of the three core members Jones (vocals), Aaron Fraz (drums) and Blake Rhein (Guitar).
Under the production episode of the latter, they play on Flowers for a short three quarters of an hour through a sound that is always in the river and almost always consistently turned backwards.
