After the dramatic semi-final victory over the German U19, defending champion Spain lost the European Championship final.

The Netherlands prevailed 1-0 (0: 0) in Bucharest and thus secured the title for the first time.

The team of coach Peter van der Veen defeated Spain in a long balanced game. The decision was made in the 63rd minute, when Spain’s Raul Jiménez fell unhappily into his own goal and brought the Dutch lead.

Despite several top -class opportunities, Spain failed to turn the game up again in the remaining season.

In the semifinals, Spain had thrown the German team 6: 5 out of the tournament in a spectacular game after extra time and was faced with the possible eleventh title win.

The Netherlands had qualified for the final with a 3-1 win over host Romania and crowned their strong tournament performance.
