Zelenski and the Council of Europe decide to special tribunal

A special tribunal will continue the protagonists of the aggression against Ukraine. The Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski and the Human Rights Organization of Europe signed the decision on the establishment of the independent and international court in Strasbourg.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, his Prime Minister and his Foreign Minister, can only be prosecuted for their role in the war against Ukraine if they are no longer in office, according to the agreements for the so -called aggression ribunal for the main responsible for the Russian invasion.

The Netherlands would like to house the tribunal in The Hague. The Court wants to prosecute the leaders who ordered Ukraine to invade and ordered to perform military action. The preliminary investigation and the collection of evidence is already done by the International Center for the Prosecution of Aggression in The Hague.

After signing the decision, Zenski said that Putin should be tried as a war criminal. “There is great political and legal courage to ensure that every Russian war criminal, including Putin, comes to court,” Zensky told the parliamentary meeting of the council.
The parliamentary meeting contains the more than three hundred members from all 46 countries that are members of the Council of Europe. The organization is independent of the European Union.

In The Hague there is already the International Criminal Court (ICC), which previously issued arrest statements against, among others, Putin for the kidnapping of Ukrainian children. The aggression ribunal is more intended to prosecute Russians for the fundamental decision to invade Ukraine.
