A car ended up this morning in a wide ditch near Wittelte. The driver could get out of the vehicle himself, but for a dog that was in the car, things ended worse. He did not survive the accident, the Drenthe Security Region said.
The accident happened just after eight on the AA-Weg in Wittelte. Due to an unknown cause, the woman lost control of the wheel and finished by car upside down in the ditch. She was not injured.
The fire brigade was called in for a rescue attempt for the dog in the car, but that help came too late. A recovery company will hoist the car from the water.
