There are a total of 64 clubs. In the “amateur pot”, the teams, which ended up in places 15 to 18 in the past season of the 2nd Bundesliga, were the four best teams in the 3rd division 2024/25 and the 24 representatives of the regional associations.
The 18 Bundesliga clubs and the 14 best -placed second division team of the 2024/25 season were in the “Profitopf”.

When do the games take place?
The games of the 1st main round will be held again on two separate appointments. The majority of the games take place from August 15th to 18th. Because the Supercup between Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart will be played on the same weekend, these two clubs only carry their cup games on 26/27. August 2025. What can the clubs take?
The DFB has not yet communicated the premium distribution for the new season. Most recently, there were almost 11 million euros for the DFB Cup winner, and there was a little more than 200,000 euros to survive the 1st main round.
In addition to the DFB’s premiums, the income from tickets and gang advertising. The clubs have to share this money after deducting all costs and taxes. Ten percent of these income also goes to the DFB, so each club receives 45 percent.
What can the clubs also achieve?
The winner of the DFB Cup also has a starting right in the new league phase in the new league trial after the European Cup reform of the UEFA, which has been in place since the 2024/25 season League. This is VfB Stuttgart in the current season.
