In October 2015, the investigation by the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office in the “summer fairy tale” affair began. Now there is a judgment.
The DFB must pay a penalty of 130,000 euros for the misconduct of its former top officials in the so-called “summer fairy tale” scandal. The district court felled this judgment Frankfurt/Main on Wednesday at the end of the process that has been going on since March 2024 for the dubious payment flows around the 2006 World Cup.
The court sees tax evasion as proven. The public prosecutor had requested a fine of 270,000 euros. The defense had requested an acquittal.
Of the three suspects, nobody was on the dock in the final phase of the process. The procedures against the three former DFB top officials Theo Zwanziger, Wolfgang Niersbach and Horst R. Schmidt were hired against the payment of fines. Twenties had to pay 10,000 euros, Niersbach 25,000 euros, Schmidt 65,000 euros.
