The episode happened towards the end of the match and the Brazilian referee Abatti immediately stopped the game according to the protocol expected in the event of racism. “Following the report on the match – reads the press release that the World Cup government published on June 24 – the FIFA disciplinary committee opened a procedure against the Pachuca player, Gustavo Cabral, regarding the episode that involved him and the player of Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger, during the match played in Charlotte last June 22”. Following what Rudiger reported to the referee, Cabral denied the accusations. Real technician, Xabi Alonso, had been very hard at the end of the match: “In football you cannot tolerate such a thing, drastic measures should be taken. Antonio told us what happened and we believe it. An investigation on the episode must be opened,” Alonso asked. At the end of the match, the 39 -year -old Cabral in turn had given the version of the facts: “I called the coward of M … ‘Rudiger, but the expression in Spanish sounds similar to a racist offense that I have never used. The referee made the gesture of the racista insult – the arms crossed in front of the chest – but I repeated to him that I only called him’. But if the accusation of racism was confirmed, Cabral risks a long disqualification.
