This obligation would be a sensation: Hertha BSC crisis club apparently negotiates with Ralf Rangnick. The 66-year-old is still a national coach in Austria.
Hertha BSC is looking for a new head of sports-and apparently targets a real top staff. The second division team is currently talking to Ralf Rangnick about returning to Germany. The “Bild” newspaper reports. Club president Fabian Drescher is said to have already met with the 66-year-old in Vienna.
Rangnick is currently training the Austrian national soccer team. At the EM 2024, the team failed in the round of 16. In the current World Cup qualification, Austria started with two wins. However, there are said to have always been tensions with the top of the association. The contract expires at the end of the year.
Rangnick led three clubs to the Bundesliga with Hannover 96, Hoffenheim and Leipzig. The 66-year-old left SSV Ulm in 1999 shortly before the first division promotion for the coaching job at VfB Stuttgart. With Schalke he became German runner-up in 2005 and won the DFB Cup and the Supercup in 2011.
Especially at RB Leipzig, he significantly shaped the project: from 2012 Ralf Rangnick was a sports director there, in the 2018/19 season he took over the coaching position. Later he also looked after Manchester United for a short time. In 2023, he rejected a request from FC Bayern.
Hertha had only ended the past season in eleven, and was stuck in the relegation battle under Cristian Fiél. But under coach Stefan Leitl, the tendency is pointing up again: The team took 19 points from the twelve games among the 47-year-old. Between the 26th and the 32nd matchday, Hertha BSC remained unbeaten.
