The 26-year-old was recently considered a wobble candidate for the European Championship squad in Switzerland. Now it is clear whether the player will be there at the home tournament.
16.7 million followers on Instagram, 12 million followers on TikTok-and now also a proud European Championship participant: The Swiss footballer and influencer Alisha Lehmann is the final contingent for the home European Championship, which begins on July 2. This was confirmed by the Swiss national team of women on Sunday on Instagram.
The nomination was made public in an unusual way: in a schnitzel-like action called “The Chase”, the EM participants were announced one after the other. Lehmann’s name could be seen on the sail of a boat that drove over Lake Zurich.
“I couldn’t be happier to represent my country in the euro. I am so grateful for the opportunity. Let us make Switzerland proud and show how women’s football grows,” Lehmann wrote on her Instagram channel about her nomination.
In advance it was unclear whether the popular Lehmann would make the leap into the European Championship team of the Swiss national coach Pia Sundhage. She had to struggle with injuries over the season, was not in the best form, and also missed some caps.
“I am someone who never gives up. I train very hard and do everything I can for finally being called up,” the 26-year-old had recently emphasized. Now it worked. The home European Championship begins for Switzerland on July 2.
