The weather forecast for this weekend promises tropical temperatures and that in combination with a party and a running match on asphalt requires extra measures.
The organization therefore focuses on various changes, “because with summer temperatures coming” it cannot be otherwise. According to the organization, those measures are needed “to give all visitors and also the participants of the Run on the Ring a safe and pleasant day”.
Shorter
This is how the run on the ring is halved. Not the 7.5 kilometers is covered, but ‘only’ the 3.75 kilometers. “As a result, all participants can run within the relatively cool part of the day,” says the organization.
To get this done, the loop is removed from the course over the A2. Participants of the running event will receive information about all adjustments and their starting times tomorrow.
Fewer visitors
Earlier, the number of visitors was limited: from 280 thousand to more than 250 thousand people. For the time being, the organization focuses on extra water points, smearing places and extra first aid support. The organization also recommends putting on airy clothing and setting up a hat or cap.
Because it will get very hot on Saturday afternoon between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., this will also be taken into account. “That’s why we let the music build at the different stages at a somewhat quieter pace.”
Consultation with the police and the Public Prosecution Service
The adjustments are a consequence of consultation with the Pentagon (this is the municipality, police, fire brigade, the public prosecutor and the medical assistance organization). The organization also says it is in contact with all kinds of weather experts. The above adjustments were made based on all those conversations.
The organization advises participants to subscribe via the LiveCrowd website for current updates on adjustments, the crowds and weather.
Earlier today, program director Sietse Bakker told AT5 probably not having to make any changes. “We have many experts who continuously advise us and at the moment there is no reason to adjust the program,” was then the response to the question of whether and how the high temperatures throw a spanner in the works of the program.
