The negotiations between Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig had come to a stall in the meantime. But now there is movement in the transfer poker again.
RB Leipzig wants to sign Ole Werner as a new trainer. But Werder, who officially signed Werner and his coaching team until 2026, pounded for a transfer of six million euros. An amount that Leipzig loudly “Kicker” did not want to pay and even rated as an affront. There was radio silence between the clubs.
However, the negotiations now seem to be accepted again. The conversations are underway – and a transfer by Ole Werner from Werder to RB Leipzig moves into the area of the possible. The “Deichstube” reports that both clubs “have now taken a big step together”.
What Werder speculates on the transfer poker
Matthias Jaissle
The 37-year-old Jaissle recently won the Champions League title of Asia with Al-Nahli-and knows the RB cosmos too well: After his football career (TSG Hoffenheim), Jaissle worked as an assistant coach in the youth field at RB Leipzig and RB Salzburg. Then he was head coach of the RB farm team FC Liefering. Between 2021 and 2023 he trained the professionals from RB Salzburg, with whom he became a master in Austria.
For the Leipziger, Matthias Jaissle has recently come into focus as an alternative, should there be no agreement between Werder and RB in the Werner personnel. But it is clear that Werner is Leipzig’s desired candidate.
It is also clear that both Leipzig and Werder have an interest in bringing the Werner deal under his roof. However, both parties naturally try to get the best possible out of the deal.
It is obvious that Werder negotiates particularly persistently. Werder knows that Leipzig has the financial means to easily handle the required transfer for Werner and his team. Especially since RB has high income from player sales: striker Benjamin Sesko and midfielder Xavi Simons have deposited their exchange of changes. These two alone could bring the club more than 100 million euros.
Accordingly, the Werner deal should not fail due to the necessary change. In addition, there is the fact that Leipzig wants to quickly have planning security on the coaching position.
The danger of failure
But of course there is also a downside. Should Leipzig waive Werner’s commitment and instead get alternative candidate Jaissle, Werder would not collect a transfer-and would also have to pay the salary of the exempted coaching team. The salaries should amount to 2.5 million euros. Money that could be invested in the squad.
