197 days after his cruciate ligament rupture, ski star Marcel Hirscher reports. In an Instagram post, the eight-time ski alpine World Cup winner from Austria speaks of another comeback.

“I am ready for another season in the alpine racing circus. Now you can call it a ‘comeback’,” says ski star Marcel Hirscher, who was launched last winter after a five-year break for the Netherlands and was able to win the overall World Cup in the 2018/2019 season, in a short video on his Instagram channel.

Hirscher can still use 17 wildcards

The Ski World Association (FIS) had previously announced that the Wildcard special rule for the 36-year-old will continue to maintain the next season. After his five-year racing break, the slalom and giant slalom specialist had the opportunity to compete with a comparatively low start number (after the top 30 start list) in World Cup races. Hirscher made use of it three times Then he stopped the cruciate ligament injury, which he moved in December during training on the Reiteralm. So 17 wildcards are still left.

FIS racing director Waldner: “Cool to have such a superstar”

The rehab was well lost, Hirscher announced in his video. He was already in athletic training. “It’s a lot of fun being a professional athlete again.”

So nothing stands in the way of the “comeback 2.0” in the racing season, which started in Sölden in Sölden. Good news for the FIS too: Racing director Markus Waldner commented in an interview with ORF as follows: “It is always cool to have such a superstar.”

Hirscher has already won everything

Hirscher had won the overall World Cup eight times in series from 2011 to 2019, as often as no other. He was Olympic champion twice. The Salzburger achieved 67 World Cup victories and a total of 138 podium places in his career. With seven World Cup titles and four silver medals, it is the most successful World Cup participant in history. He also won the small crystal ball in slalom and giant slalom six times. After his active time, he launched his own ski brand.
