René van der Gijp was attacked by feelings of fear after the fierce news about Suzan & Freek. The male half of the duo has been given a fatal diagnosis. “Very scary.”
The world stood still for Suzan & Freek three weeks ago, after a metastatic lung cancer was found at the 32-year-old Freek Rikkerink. It wened the fear of death with René van der Gijp, something that he is already bothered by. The today Inside star often fears that the moment is when fate strikes.
‘Really bizarre’
That fear of death is constant in his life, says René in the podcast As long as it’s fun. “Yes. Certainly. But in a fairly normal way. Especially when my son Sanny had cancer and so on, I had the idea of: I know I bury my parents, but I hope I don’t immediately hope that I will be gone sooner.”
It is frightening to see your son getting death so close, says René. “I would really find that bizarre. Of course it is bizarre, you know, I mean: my girlfriend died in her sleep.”
‘Afraid of what is coming’
When asked if he should have protected his ex-girlfriend against himself, René replies: “Certainly. No, I should certainly have done that. Of course she also just had those two children at home that she took good care of, but she did not take care of herself very well.”
It always gets so close, he explains. “Those are all things, you know … I am afraid of what is still coming. Just in my area. What is coming. What you can still encounter, you know.”
Suzan & Freek
It can happen just like that, René explains. “Then you can say: that is doom thinking. But if you are also … I am aware that things like that with Suzan & Freek … That is the order of the day, Joh.”
“You can only be happy all the time, so to speak, that you do not encounter it yourself. But I always have the idea: it will come once, it will come once, you know. I think that’s scary.”
