Almost two years after her departure as Statenfraction leader, Mira Hamraoui gets a new prominent role at GroenLinks in Drenthe. Last Saturday, at the provincial members’ meeting, she was elected by the party members as chairman of the board.
Hamraoui (34) was the only candidate. “But I am happy with the support of the members,” says the brand new chairman. She says she is looking forward to working in Drenthe.
In the summer of 2023, Hamraoui became party leader, after Sam Pormes left the party and went alone. A few months later she quit for personal reasons. She thought that was a ‘difficult decision’ at the time.
In the meantime, Hamraoui continued to become a party employee, so that she continued to make her contributions to the party in the background. As a chairman of the board, not only is an exciting time for her, but also for GroenLinks because of two elections (nationally this year and next year the city council) and the merger with the PvdA. “Together with the PvdA we have to do justice to the merger in Drenthe,” says Hamraoui about one of her most important tasks as chairman.
Possibly her work is quickly on if the merger is a fact. Then a new board may have to be chosen from the merger party. Until then, Hamraoui thinks he can connect different members and departments. “I dare to make choices and make it clear what I’m standing for. I bring enthusiasm and a bit of rejuvenation.”
GroenLinks said goodbye to Hamraoui’s predecessor Fenna Bolding last Saturday. She used the chairman’s hammer for five years. Dirkje Scholte also leaves the board. Judith Valentijn was chosen as a general board member.
