Vienna (dpa -AfX) – Iran accuses the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of not preventing the Israeli attacks on the Iranian nuclear program. Despite warnings from Tehran, the IAEA and its boss Rafael Grossi had not taken any effective preventive measures, said Iranian ambassador Resa Nadschafi in a special meeting of the IAEA Governor Council.
Nadschafi did not mention that Grossi had publicly warned about military strokes against nuclear facilities a few days before the Israeli offensive.
The Iranian diplomat reported that his country had already taken “special measures” to protect nuclear systems and nuclear material. In view of the current security situation, the IAEA would only be informed of these steps later, he said.
A group of ten states including the nuclear weapons states of Russia, China and Pakistan condemned in the IAEA meeting together with Iran Israel’s destruction of Iranian nuclear facilities.
The group, which also included Belarus, Burkina Faso, Indonesia, Iraq, Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, warned that the Israeli attacks undermine confidence in the international nuclear weapon blocking contract.
Rumors about the resignation from nuclear weapons locking contract
Meanwhile, rumors in Iran are circulating about a possible exit of the Islamic Republic from this agreement, which prohibits states without nuclear weapons to build a nuclear arsenal. The rumors were triggered by an interview by a MP on Sunday. However, Parliament has not made a decision so far, and according to a report by the state news agency IRNA, the topic is not on the agenda ./al/dp/jha
