The US aircraft manufacturer Boeing expects a somewhat weaker demand for new jets than last for the next 20 years.

By 2044, 43,600 new machines would probably be needed, the group said shortly before the world’s largest aviation fair in Paris on Sunday night. A year ago, Boeing had predicted almost 400 machines by 2043.

The world’s largest aircraft manufacturer Airbus from Europe gives a slightly lower number for 2044 with 43,400 machines, but is based on its further growth compared to its previous forecast. In addition, Airbus only calculates jets with more than 100 seats, but Boeing also takes into account smaller regional aircraft.

Both manufacturers expect airlines all over the world to use half of the new machines to expand their fleets. Almost half of the jets are likely to replace older and therefore more fuel -thirsty models that are retired. According to Boeing’s assessment, the global aircraft fleet will grow to 49,640 passenger and freight jets by 2044. Airbus assumes a doubling to more than 49,000 machines.

Boeing has been in a serious crisis in 2018 and 2019 since the crash of two 737 Max jets. After further expensive breakdowns and an almost accident in early 2024, the US Air Faa banned the manufacturer to continue the production of its medium-range jets from the 737 Max model series until further notice.

Of all things, this aircraft class is in demand as much as no other: narrow hull jets such as the 737 Max and the Airbus model families A320neo and A220, depending on the forecast, stand for around two thirds to four fifths of the expected need. Large jets such as the Boeing models 777x and 787 “Dreamliner” and the Airbus types A350 and A330neo bring far more sales, but only stand for a bruchen
