Red Bull Pilot Yuki Tsunoda received a high starting place punishment after a violation in the third free training session at the Grand Prix of Canada.

As the racing commissioners announced during the subsequent qualifying, the Japanese is relocated by ten ranks in the starting line -up.

The reason for this is an overtaking maneuver tsunoda against McLaren pilot Oscar Piatri under red flags. Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko described the punishment at “Sky” as “very, very hard”.

Piatri had maneuvered his car back to the box after contact with the wall and tire damage, tsunoda overtook the slow Australian in contrast.

According to the judgment, Tsunoda should have “followed a safe distance” in order to escape a punishment.
