Due to the absence of Leo Driessen, the NH Sportcafé was presented once by Guus Hiddink and former skater Marianne Timmer.
The reason for the interview is the appointment of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as an assistant trainer at Liverpool, under Arne Slot. When former top skater Marianne Timmer Hiddink asks if he still sees it, he answers with a resounding ‘yes, sure’.
“I have not been an assistant for years, but of course, but I could be quite an assistant, yes.” He is even open to it, he emphasizes when Timmer asks him about it. “But I am no longer asked,” he adds – with a wink.
Prejudice
Yet he does not like to become active with a women’s team, although – he himself acknowledges – probably based on prejudices. “If we have a fight in a training situation, fight for a moment, talk it out and drink your beer and you’re done. With ladies there might be something hanging.”
According to Marianne Timmer, that is indeed an unjustified assumption. “It will be something else, but I think you can do well ….” even before she can finish her way, Hiddink adds to her: “… dealing with ladies.”
