At the club World Cup, Leroy Sané is again wearing the FC Bayern jersey, and on July 1, the German international then changes to the Turkish champion Galatasaray. In some cases, the attacker’s decision to earn his buns in the Süperlig was critically commented. Lothar Matthäus, on the other hand, has only praise.
“I think the change is great! Galatasaray has ambitions, a big budget, Turkish football has become stronger, the times of the scandals are over,” emphasized Lothar Matthäus in the “Bild”.
As a Turkish double winner, Gala is “a very good address,” added the 64-year-old. In Turkish football there are also “great stadiums” and coaches, “have brought calm to the clubs”.
With his transfer coup, Galatasaray “made a sign internationally”, explained Matthäus, who also as an expert for RTL is active. At the same time, however, this means “a certain pressure for Leroy Sané”.

What Germany’s record national player says: Sané is the absolute “royal transfer”, which must provide services in accordance with his three years of contract.
When he arrived in Istanbul, the former Schalke was celebrated by hundreds of fans, the pictures went around the world.
“FC Bayern never really fought for Sané”
If Sané finds its top form at Galatasaray, Matthäus believes that his World Cup chances would increase: “It is up to Leroy himself: If he performs at Gala in the league and also in the Champions League, he has a very big chance of being part of the World Cup.”
In his five years at Bayern, light and shadow had turned to the wing striker. Nothing would have changed, Matthäus believes that who did not feel any real efforts for further cooperation.
“The club did not necessarily want to keep it. While other players got significantly more money during extensions, the club has stepped on the salary brake,” the world champion from 1990 pointed out.
His critical conclusion: “Bavaria never really fought for Sané.”
