Tatjana Maria continues to play big at the WTA tournament in London. The Wimbledon winner from 2022 cannot stop her either.
At the age of 37, Tatjana Maria played in the headlines in the middle of the lawn season. After a surprise victory against Jelena Rybakina, the mother of two is in the semi-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in London-only a few weeks before Wimbledon.
The Schwäbin prevailed in the quarter -finals with 6: 4, 7: 6 (7: 4) against the former Wimbledon winner from Kazakhstan. Maria, currently number 86 of the world rankings, again delivered a strong performance. She had previously prevailed against Leylah Fernandez from Canada and the Czech Karolína Muchová.
“It is a perfect example to never give up,” said Maria after the match in the space interview. “I live a dream,” she said. She was “super proud” about her semi -finals: she also looked at her eleven -year -old daughter Charlotte, who is considered a great talent: “I hope you see my daughter in the same round in a few years.”
On Saturday Maria will now meet Madison Keys from the USA. The Australian Open winner goes into the duel as a clear favorite. But Maria has now proven several times in London that she feels comfortable on lawn.
Maria celebrated her greatest success in a Grand Slam competition in 2022 when she sensationally moved into the Wimbledon semi-finals. That year Rybakina won the tournament.
