While the music industry mourns the death of Brian Wilson – co -founder of the Beach Boys and Creator of an entire genre of the California rock – Elton John his friend on Instagram paid a special tribute.

“Brian Wilson was always so friendly to me, from the day I met him,” John explained in a photo of the two in a room full of studio equipment. “He sang ‘Someone Saved My Life Tonight’ at a tribute concert in 2003. And it was an extraordinary moment for me. He played on his solo albums, sang the Union on my album and even appeared for my AIDS foundation.”

John further explained that her relationship grew beyond music. “I learned to love him as a person. And for me he was the greatest impact on my songwriting in general. He was a musical genius and a revolutionary. He shifted the standards for writing songs and shaped the music forever. A true giant.”

The Wilson family announced his death on Wednesday afternoon (local time east coast) on social media. While no cause of death was called, in February 2024 it was made public that the legendary singer and producer suffered from dementia. Stars like Carole King, Graham Nash, Mick Fleetwood, Nancy Sinatra and many more also shared their tributs to Wilson.

And we mourn the loss of our cousin, our friend and our partner on a big musical journey,” wrote the band in a statement. “Brian Wilson was not just the heart of the beach Boys. He was the soul of our sound. The melodies he dreamed, and the emotions he put in every note have changed the course of music forever. His incomparable talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack so many life around the world – including our own. – Music that gave people a good feeling, made them believe in the summer and in endless opportunities. ”

“We are insoluble about his death,” the group continued. “We will continue to appreciate the timeless music that we have made together and the joy that he brought millions of people over decades. And although we will miss him painfully, his legacy will live on through his songs and in our memories.”
