On the large lawn with different huts is constantly being struggled and built. Families, but also groups of children make pallets and shelves the best possible huts. “We wanted to make a triple hut, it will be a big one,” describes hut builder Daan. “And he will be long. Yes, that a bit.”
‘Make something together’
The free playground in Oost has around 120,000 children who play, work in the garden or build a hut every year. Four hectares of greenery with a city farm, swings and slides, a cable car and of course the hut village. For director Meinke Noordam, the importance of such a place for Amsterdam children is guessed.
You can learn from both the flowers and plants, and playfully at the huts. The children are outside and because it is free, it does not automatically mean that they play with classmates, but also with other children from the neighborhood. Looking at the hut builders: “Yes, this is Jeugdland, making something together.”
