Mats Hummels gets goodbye to BVB

Over a year ago, Mats Hummels played his last game for Borussia Dortmund. Now the club would like to officially adopt him in the stadium.
On August 10th, BVB is more on the program than just football: Borussia Dortmund officially says goodbye to Mats Hummels. As part of the opening of the season against Juventus Turin, in which both the men’s and the women’s team of the two teams will play against each other, the long-time defender is honored between the games.
The now 36-year-old played a total of 508 competitive games for the district club. During his time in Dortmund, Hummels won two championship titles, twice the DFB Cup and was twice in the final of the Champions League.
In the summer of 2024, the association decided not to extend the contract with the former captain. Hummels then switched to AS ROM in series A. Speculation that BVB could once again provide him with a short-term contract for the club World Cup.
A few weeks ago, the 83-time international announced his end of his career. In addition to BVB, he also played for FC Bayern Munich in his career. Hans-Joachim Watzke praised Hummels with the words that he was “one of the greatest players that Borussia Dortmund has ever had”.
