Sydney Sweeney has changed drastically for her most physically demanding role so far: In an upcoming biopic, she plays the legendary US boxer Christy Martin-and not only had to get into the ring physically, but also physically. In an interview, she now spoke in detail about the hard way there for the first time.

“I came on board to play Christy and had about three and a half months of training,” reports Sweeney in front of “W Magazine”. “I started eating properly. I did an hour of strength training in the morning, about two hours of kickboxing and another hour of strength training in the evening.”

“My body was completely different”

The effect on her body was not long in coming. “My body was completely different,” continues the 27-year-old. “I no longer fit into any of my clothes. I usually wear jeans size 23, and suddenly it was size 27. My breasts got bigger. And my butt was huge. It was crazy! I just thought: ‘Oh my god.'” Despite all the changes, she looked positively on the change: “But it was so incredible: I was so strong, so crazy.”

During the shooting time, paparazzi bikini pictures were published by her, who led to Bodyshaming comments on social media-but Sweeney consciously took this as an opportunity to react to the criticism and address the topic.

Biopic via a box legend with a tragic background

The biopic, which has no official title yet, is directed by David Michôd, who also wrote the script with Mirrah Foulkes. The focus is on Christy Martin’s comet-like rise to the best-known boxer of America in the 1990s-and the dark sides of her life.

Martin started her professional career in 1989 and became a world champion in 2009 in 2009. In 2010 she survived a murder attack by her husband James Martin, who attacked her with a knife and then shot her up with a pistol. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2012 for attempted murder.
