So far, the collaboration between Red Bull and Max Verstappen has been extremely successful. But crisis rumors persist. An ex-employee has a theory.

There are numerous rumors around the future of Max Verstappen. After the weak start of the Red Bull team into the current Formula 1 season, there is always speculation about a farewell to the Dutch from the Austrian racing team. After four World Cup titles in the racing overall of the shower brand, the magic seems to have been gone for the time being. McLaren currently has the much better car. A move to Aston Martin or Mercedes is regularly discussed by 2028 despite an ongoing contract.

Calum Nicholas was also long for Red Bull. He worked as a mechanic for the racing team for years and increasingly gained awareness through the Netflix documentary “Drive to Survive”, which deals with the “premier class of motorsport”. Last year he resigned as a mechanic and has since been on the road as a brand ambassador for Red Bull.

Now Nicholas was a guest in Lucas Stewart’s online show-and openly speculated about the future of Verstappen. Despite the inferior car, he continues to believe in another world championship title of the 27-year-old. Nicholas said when asked how many World Cup titles Verstappen will have at the end of his career.

Then the really explosive speculation followed: “I think Max will win the driver’s title this year and then he will stop,” said Nicolas’ assumption. When asked whether he has specific information in this regard, the ex-mechanic only said: “No, I definitely don’t know anything.” So he also only speculates.

However, Nicolas’ assumption is not quite out of air. Verstappen said in the past that he did not want to drive in Formula 1 as long as some of his world championship predecessors. He always emphasized that the record of seven titles, which Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton are currently holding, did not stimulate him. Instead, he would rather try other racing series and also spend a lot of time with his family.

Just a few weeks ago, Verstappen became a father for the first time. He and his wife Kelly Piquet, her sign of the three-time Formula 1 world champion Nelson Piquet, welcomed daughter Lily. In addition, Piquet already brought a daughter to the relationship from a previous relationship with ex-Red bull pilot Daniil Kvyat.

Could the birth of the first own daughter really be a reason for Verstappen to leave Formula 1 behind? Possible. But like all information about Verstappen, this has also belonged to the realm of speculation so far.
