It is quiet on Tuesday morning at Zaandam station. Apart from a few train travelers, taxi drivers, cleaners and employees of the station shops, it remains quiet.
A cleaner at the station is present early to wipe the entire station clean. He is going to work today as if it is a normal day, he says. “Today we have more time for odd jobs that we can do well now.”
NH radio reporter Rachel Morssink meets some train travelers who were not aware of the strike of The NS strike. “I have to go to Amsterdam, but I can also take the bus,” says a passer -by. That the trains will not run again this morning, he thinks ‘not striking’. “We are the victims, the people who go by train now. They also stopped on Friday.”
Another traveler also faced an empty station this morning. “Can happen,” he says cheerfully. “I can also go to work by car.” Yet he understands the strike, but he finds it annoying for travelers.
