The plasticized license in European format, which has existed since 2013, is totally different from the old paper document. It contains several voices, not all of them are immediate. A summary
For those who have had the old paper license for years and then went to the European plasticized card, adapt to the novelty must not have been simple. The European driving license was introduced over ten years ago, dates back to 2013, but the transition was managed in a “soft” way: the old man remained valid until his natural deadline, so those who had renewed it a short time before the introduction of the new European license adopted the current format only recently. It is therefore physiological that some accuse a little confusion in the reading of the European licenseand struggle to understand the meaning of the fields and voices it contains. On the back there is a legend, which however, due to the reduced space on the document, is more a “quick manual”, for some, however, also difficult to consult since the characters are very small. So here is one Guide to the use of the European license: What information contains and what is the meaning of the different fields.
How do you read the license: Front
–
The front facade of the driving license contains several Voices numbered from 1 to 9. Here are what are:
- 1) surname
- 2) Name
- 3) date and place of birth
- 4A) Date of release of the license
- 4B) Descliar date of the license
- 4C) Authority who released the license (the initials of the competent Office, the Police Headquarters or the Motorization)
- 5) Alfanumeric code of the license
- 6) Identification photo
- 7) signature of the owner
- 9) Category or categories (often are more than one) of the means that the owner can lead.
Field number 8 is missingand not surprisingly: in the license, it simply is not there. The reason? In the old national license, the one released before the European plasticized license was introduced, the number 8 field indicated the residence address, an information that remained outside the current license. So to avoid confusion between the meaning of the old field number 8 and the one – different – which would have had in the license in European format, it was preferred not to insert it.
How do you read the license: back
–
The rear facade of the driving license contains several condensed information in a few fields, numbered from 9 to 13:
- 9) category or categories (often are more than one) of the means that the owner can lead
- 10) date on which the owner obtained permission to conduct the indicated category
- 11) date on which the owner will have to renew permission to conduct that category of means
The field number 12 It has a column inside the table but is also found in the lower part of the license. In any case, it is reserved for the codes: in the column of the table they relate to the category, at the bottom it contains generic requirements, that is, valid regardless of the category. A couple of examples: the Code 71 indicates that the document is a duplicate released for loss, damage or theft, the Code 01 Instead that the driver has the obligation, while guiding, of wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses.
RECOGNITION
–
The driving license is valid as an identification document? Yesby virtue of the team between the license and the recognition document par excellence, that is the identity card. DPR number 445 of 2000 establishes in fact The identity card equivalence driving licensepassport, nautical license, and others (including the port of arms) and more generally the recognition cards with photography and stamp or other equivalent signatures issued by a state administration.
