Jannik Sinner confidently conquered Grand Slam record winner Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of the French Open-with his own resources.

Sinner demonstrated again in Paris in his 6: 4, 7: 5, 7: 6 (7: 3) against Djokovic on Friday (06.06.2025), why he is currently considered the best player in the world. After his three -month doping lock, the 23 -year -old Italian looks more complete than before, was not burned little, especially with his own surcharge.

Zverev conqueror Djokovic (38) also played strongly, risked a lot and also had to. Because Sinner showed hardly any weaknesses, even brought back the most difficult balls and survived delicate phases – just like Djokovic in his best years.

Musetti has to give up against Alcaraz

Sinner, the number one of the tennis world rankings, moved into the final without loss of sets. There he meets Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday after his semi -final victory against Lorenzo Musetti. The Italian had to give up in the fourth set at 6: 4, 6: 7, 0: 6, 0: 2.

“It was so special for me to play against Novak in the semi -finals of a Grand Slam. I had to show my best tennis. And he showed again why he is such a role model for all of us” Sinner said on the pitch in the winner’s face. He praised Djokovic as “Best players in tennis history”.

Sinner afford second double errors

Routinier Djokovic had a good start in difficult wind conditions, but gave his serve at 2: 3 in the first set. This is fatal against the top angler Sinner, the Italian served precisely and won the first set 6: 4.

At the beginning of the second set, remarkable happened: Sinner made a double mistake – it was only his second in the entire tournament. He also lost the rallies of the day: after 26 strokes with several stops and counter stops, Djokovic pressed the ball into the field and enjoyed the frenetic cheers from the ranks. In any case, the Serb had many spectators on his side in his challenge role.

Djokovic wins most spectacular Point

However – and that was symptomatic of the duel: immediately after the spectacular point there was a long ball change again, at the end of which Djokovic visibly invalidated a stop attempt. Sinner and equalized the next point to 1-1. In such moments, the 15 years of age difference was noticeable.

But Djokovic would not have won 25 Grand slams if he could get out of the concept of such situations. He kept strong against it, brought his service games through confidently before collecting the break to 4: 2.

Weak quota with the first surcharge

The only weakness in Sinner’s game was the first serve. He came so rarely that Djokovic still got his first break chances at the 4: 5 stand. At this point, Sinner’s quota was 45 percent at the first serve.

But Sinner then showed that he also has Djokovic qualities in terms of mental strength. He got the rebreak unimpressed and subsequently the second sentence.

Sentence balls for Djokovic

Even if the 0-2 set defeat was a preliminary decision, Djokovic continued to fight like a lion. In the high -class third round, he continued to play at eye level and even developed three set balls at 5: 4. But here, too, Sinner had the right answers ready and won the Tiebreak – his first in the course of the tournament.

Anxiety opponent Alcaraz

Sinner has now won 20 Grand Slam matches in a row-including the recent title winnings in Melbourne and New York. He has lost only two games since August 2024 – both against his final opponent Alcaraz. He won only four of eleven duels with the Spaniards. “My direct comparison against him doesn’t look that great, but I’m glad that I am in the final”, said Sinner.
