Nadah El Shazly spends her time between her hometown Cairo and the Canadian Montreal. The music of her first album Ahwar from 2018 could be imagined as a soundtrack of the trip between these locations. The cover showed a fairytale, flying female being, combined from women, fish, mammals, coral. After various collaborations, Laini Tani is now the artist’s second regular record.
This time the trip leads to the nights of Cairo, in which the modernity of the big city meets old traditions. The demons find enough opportunities to let off steam, but at Nadah El Shazly always gain the good spirits in a fairytale way.
Due to the nine songs of the album, the aim is to combine electronica with Egyptian traditions. Some songs radiate the calm of a dreamer, others sound as restless as the night outside the bedroom. Nadah El Shazly is looking for magic in all these night worlds, developing music with Arabic rhythms and digital sounds: mysterious, impenetrable, soulfull, sensual.
