A residential place for 420 labor migrants in the former grain factory in Hoogeveen seems a step closer. The initiators behind the plan have received an agreement from the city council to apply for a permit.

The majority of politics gave the green light for it during a meeting tonight, only D66, the SP and Forum for Democracy voted against. Among other things, they think that local residents have not been sufficiently included in the plans.

The complex of initiators SVZ and E&A Wonen must come to the former site of the Graanfabriek along the Dr. Anton Philipsstraat. Local residents and companies in the area are not pleased with the plans and protesting for years.

Local residents fear that there will be a lot of nuisance. It would not fit in the neighborhood and the fear is that there will be noise and nuisance 24 hours a day. It would also not benefit the traffic in the area.

Companies in the area have recently indicated that they want to take legal steps when the complex is coming. They are afraid that they will have less room to expand in the future and do not think it fits on the De Wieken industrial estate.

The VVD still submitted the request to maintain well as soon as the complex is there. “In this way to prevent forms of nuisance and insecurity,” said Wilco Kramer party leader.

According to Alderman Derk Reneman, that is superfluous, because agreements are made with the initiators. Nevertheless, the VVD’s request received support from a majority of the city council.

“A cloth for bleeding,” said Vincent Vos from Forum for Democracy. “But that’s how we stay sharp.” Jan de Goede of the PvdA also agreed on his right side. “A stick behind the door and a good idea at the moment.”
