Violators who dump waste at underground containers in Den Bosch will receive a higher fine in 2026. The fine increases from 150 euros to 220 euros per violation. With this measure, the two full -time enforcers must be able to remain employed.
The municipality started a test in January 2023 to reduce litter and dumps. For this, Boas were deployed that took both preventive and enforcement measures. That test is in any case extended, the city council recently decided.
More fines were handed out during the test and more reports were made of waste dumps. According to the municipality, that is a logical consequence of the work of the enforcers. The figures do not show whether the fine actually ensures that people adhere better to the rules, writes DTV News.
However, Den Bosch concludes that the number of locations where waste is being dumped is less, especially in the neighborhoods. That does not apply to underground containers in the vicinity of shopping centers, where the problem is getting bigger.
Garden chairs and a speedboat
In recent years it has always been a mess at the underground containers in Den Bosch, but the problem also plays in Oss. Child seats, laundry baskets, furniture, sofa and garden chairs and a speedboat were found over the years at the containers. The costs are for the account of the municipalities and therefore the taxpayer.
“Of course we have extra costs for the staff and the vehicle, but also costs for having the waste processed,” said a municipal spokesperson earlier. “Normally the owner would bring bulky waste to the environmental station and pay the associated costs for this. These costs are now for the account of the municipality.”
Oss has previously taken measures by removing all orange containers for plastic, metal and drinking suits.
